Modenas Strengthens Ev After-sales Capabilities Through Service Plus


Partnership with GIATMARA combines real-world EV servicing with industry-based technical training

Kota Bharu, Malaysia , 28 June 2026 – Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (MODENAS), a member of the DRB-HICOM Group, and GIATMARA Malaysia today launched the MODENAS Service Plus at GIATMARA Prima Melor in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

The centre will support the maintenance of MODENAS electric motorcycles used by Pos Malaysia for its delivery operations, while providing GIATMARA’s trained technical personnel with practical experience in servicing electric motorcycles under commercial operating conditions.

The centre was officially launched by Datuk Zulfikri bin Osman, Director-General of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). Also present were Ts. Ahmad Hamdi bin Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of GIATMARA Malaysia, and Roslan Roskan, Chief Executive Officer of MODENAS, alongside representatives from MARA, GIATMARA and Pos Malaysia.

In his speech during the launch, Roslan said the development of electric mobility must be supported by reliable after-sales services and relevant technical capabilities.

ā€œIntroducing electric motorcycles is only one part of the journey. It must also be supported by trained technicians, suitable facilities and dependable servicing capabilities. This partnership between MODENAS and GIATMARA will not only cater to the maintenance needs of Pos Malaysia’s Modenas MEV-1 fleet, but more importantly, creates the opportunity for technical and vocational education and training (TVET) for EV skills that will be increasingly needed as electric mobility continues to grow,ā€ said Roslan.

GIATMARA Prima Melor was established in January 2024 and offers seven training areas, including Automotive Technology, Motorcycle Technology and Electric Motorcycles. A total of 878 trainees have graduated from the institution, comprising 294 full-time trainees and 584 participants in short-term programmes. It has also supported the development of 82 entrepreneurs through business establishment and enhancement initiatives.

Besides Prima Melor, the MODENAS-GIATMARA partnership will see similar service centres being set up at three other GIATMARA centres in Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak to support its Pos Malaysia’s electric motorcycle fleet servicing requirements in those states.

Under the collaboration, MODENAS provides technical training, service procedures, operating standards and ongoing technical support. GIATMARA meanwhile provides trained technical personnel, workshop facilities and operational support for the servicing programme.

The scope includes scheduled maintenance, safety inspections, diagnostics, corrective repairs and technical support. This exposes GIATMARA’s technical personnel to commercial maintenance requirements, workshop safety procedures and industry service standards.

It brings TVET closer to industry needs while helping to develop skilled talent for the electric mobility sector,ā€ Roslan added.

As part of the partnership, GIATMARA instructors underwent training at the MODENAS Learning Centre in Gurun, Kedah, covering product knowledge, service and maintenance procedures, troubleshooting and practical vehicle familiarisation.

Today’s launch builds on the MODENAS–GIATMARA partnership established in 2023, which has progressed from technical training and technology transfer to structured electric motorcycle servicing operations. The partnership also includes the Industrial Centre of Excellence (ICoE) for Motorcycle Technology at GIATMARA Pendang.

The launch of the MODENAS Service Plus at GIATMARA Prima Melor marks the next phase of the collaboration, where industry-based technical training is applied through actual EV after-sales operations. MODENAS and GIATMARA will continue to develop and strengthen Malaysia’s EV servicing capabilities and talent development in support of the country’s expanding electric mobility sector.
